Sports Massage The Facts
A Sports Massage is not necessarily relaxing, in fact it can be somewhat painful. However, it can help speed recovery from injury, or general tightness and pain.
In fact, received regularly, it may help both athletes and the general public to prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overuse.
A constant build up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, and tendons, as well as the muscles themselves.
These muscle imbalances may develop and often go undiagnosed until they are serious enough to cause you discomfort or impede performance. The skilled massage therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues and by using the correct techniques, help you maintain a much healthier physical state.
It may therefore be reasonably claimed that one of the greatest benefits of sports massage is in helping prevent injury.
At the Studio I have found that sports massage is as beneficial to the "average" person as it is to athletes.
Have you thought of trying Kinesio Tape as seen on many professional sports people? It can be extremely effective for releasing tight muscles, to support healing and reduce swelling. If you have a strained joint it can provide support while the injury heals. Available as an addition to your massage or as a stand alone treatment.
